ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA - North Hills School District and its 364-member teachers' union have agreed on a new five-year contract more than four months before the current pact's Aug. 23 expiration.
The new contract provides an average raise of 3.48 percent annually for teachers. But about 185 teachers at the top of the salary schedule will receive no salary bump greater than 1.63 percent during each year of the contract.
The new pact also includes increased teacher contributions for health insurance coverage. When the increased contributions take effect, North Hills teachers will contribute the largest amount for their medical insurance of any of Allegheny County's 42 suburban school districts.
“North Hills School District and our teachers reached this agreement through a process of shared problem solving as we worked together and not in opposition on this project," superintendent Patrick Mannarino said in a district release. "Our efforts represent a culture of collaboration, cooperation and mutual respect that I am proud to say we have developed in North Hills."
Negotiators for the school district and the union have been meeting since mid-2018.
